KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian-based content and media group Sedania Media Group Sdn Bhd hopes to achieve gross sales of RM231 million next year.
Sedania, which commenced operations in 2003, is looking at its 14 new business plans to help boost its sales.
The company recorded RM56 million in sales up to the third quarter of this year Sedania's group CEO, Azrin Mohd Noor, said the company's business is divided into four divisions media, telecommunication, travel and international ventures each of which is managed separately.
"We started off in 2003 with only four staff and within a year we recorded gross sales of more than RM1 million and we have been achieving our targets yearly and I am confident of the progress," Azrin said, adding that the RM56 million in sales for this year has surpassed the group's earlier expectations.
Azrin, who spoke to The Malay Mail recently, revealed that currently Sedania's media and telecommunication division makes up 80 per cent of its annual gross sales for 2009. However, for next year, the group plans to focus more on its travel and international ventures division.
"We started off with the travel division three years ago. Now, there are about 2.4 billion airline passengers around the world and is expected to increase to 2.75 billion by 2012 and through our strategic partnership with International Air Transport Association, we see a huge potential," he said.
Sedania has solutions that are designed to enhance passengers' travelling experience by incorporating mobile capabilities in business requirements.
Among the products in the division that will contribute to boost its income includes the Global SIM pack, where currently it's only available to customers who are travelling to Indonesia.
However, Azrin said, by year end, the product will also be available for those travelling to Singapore, Philippines and Thailand.
According to him, the company expects to have new partnerships with 10 new telecommunication companies as part of its expansion plans. Sedania is working with seven telecommunication companies locally and internationally.
Azrin said this will enable travellers to purchase SIM packs of the country they are travelling to and the call charges will be cheaper while saving the hassle of looking for a SIM pack in a foreign country.
He added that next year, the group will work on strengthening their products and will not be expanding its business to new countries.
"We don't plan to expand our business to a country where it's more than five hours of flight journey from Malaysia and also into something that we have no knowledge of. We also don't plan to venture out from the Asian continent for now. We know our market well and our products are also customised according to the needs of the public there," Azrin explained.
Sedania's other core activities include content for television, mobile, ground events, mobile communication technologies and platform, research and development as well as infrastructure.
The group believes that its strength lies in its ability to be customer centric in offering a broader based media content by using multimedia convergence.
Sedania's portfolio includes handling properties such as the English Premier League, World Cup, Olympics, Airtime Share, VoiceMe Tone and others.
Sedania's headquarters is in Kelana Jaya, Selangor. However, its business is extended to Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Bangladesh.
